Using the Cohousing concept, this community could be developed within the Deira Dubai heritage area. Through the analysis of the traditional courtyard house of the Bastakiya neighbourhood, the transformation of the historical residential housing district into a contemporary new community maintains the traditional architectural elements of the community. This sustainable low-income cohousing community would meet the needs of a variety of residents, ranging from families to young couples and individuals with a prime focus on communal and shared facilities through the design of the complex. This communal lifestyle would help engage the residents to interact with one another and create a sense of community within the centre of Deira Dubai.
