Located in the heart of the old town of Dubai, the Dubai Mediatheque centre is morphed from the ground, above the Al Shindagha tunnel, passing over the tunnel entrance - a convenient location for the many cars that pass through from either end of the Dubai Creek. It is a juncture where the seperation between traffic and pedestrian is met - information is taken by people who walk through the centre and those who drive below it. Updates on traffic congestion, current weather, as well as advertisements would be seen using an LED screen that runs along the edge of the building on the street side.
The Dubai Mediatheque is a public centre that is integrated within the infrastructure of the city. Such buildings that cater to a fast-paced city could well accomodate the public in densely knit areas through out Dubai - The Mediatheque is a new form of architecture for today’s growing cities.
This project was given an Honorable Mention in 2A Dubai Magazine's Du[b]ailities Design Competition 2009.
